Four traffic fatalities on Georgia highways
July 4, 2018--12:50 p.m.
The Georgia State Patrol is reporting four highway fatalities so far during the Independence Day Holiday travel period which began at 6 p.m. Tuesday and ends at 11:59 p.m. tonight.
The fatal wrecks were worked by Post 22 in Waycross, Post 31 in Valdosta, Chamblee Police and Fulton County Police.
Troopers will be on high visibility patrols watching for those who are driving impaired or distracted, not wearing seatbelts, and other traffic violations that could potentially cause a traffic crash.
Also, please keep in mind as you travel, Georgia law prohibits all drivers from using hand-held cell phones while driving.
During this time of year, troopers report that impaired driving is one of the leading contributing factors in a majority of the fatal traffic crashes that they investigate.
The Georgia State Patrol is participating in the Operation Zero Tolerance campaign against impaired drivers, and are working alongside sheriff’s deputies and police officers to apprehend impaired drivers.
