Eight traffic deaths during holiday weekend

The Georgia Department of public safety will release the final Memorial holiday traffic statistics later today.
As of 6 p.m. Sunday, there had been 8 fatalities on the state’s highways.
A motorcyclist from Cartersville was killed in a collision with a Honda Civic in Woodstock Sunday morning.
Another fatality is being investigated by the Paulding County Post of the Georgia State Patrol.
Fatal crashes have also been worked by the Columbus Police department, the GSP’s Post 42 in Rincon, the Georgia Department of Public Safety's Criminal Interdiction Unit in Troop C (Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Clayton County), the Cobb County Police, Thomaston Police and the Georgia State Patrol Post in Brunswick.
In 2017, during a similar 78-hour travel period, the Georgia State Patrol investigated 452 traffic crashes over the Memorial Day weekend.
The crashes resulted in 274 injuries and six people losing their lives.
The holiday weekend travel period ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday night.
