Man arrested following traffic stop

A traffic stop on Donahoo Road at Reeceburg Road Wednesday night resulted in the arrest of a Rome man on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records, marijuana and a schedule four controlled substance were found in a camera bag in the vehicle.

45-year old Gary Don Holmes, of a Garden Lakes Boulevard address, is charged with possession of a controlled substance; possession of less than an ounce of marijuana; driving on a suspended or revoked license; driving with canceled, suspended or revoked registration; driving without insurance; a cracked windshield; and a probation violation.

Teen charged with damaging new sidewalk on Burnett Ferry

An 18-year old Rome man was arrested Wednesday accused of damaging a sidewalk under construction on Burnett Ferry Road near Shorter Avenue.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Matthew Lee Owens, of a Shorter Avenue address, wrote and walked on the freshly poured concrete, causing over $6,000 in damage.

Owens committed the act with a 12-year old present and the juvenile was also caught causing damage to the concrete, according to the report.

Owens is charged with felony 2nd-degree criminal damage to property and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.


Report: Man spit on jail officer

January 11, 2018--9:39 a.m.


A Rome man is facing charges of simple battery on a jail officer following an incident at the Floyd County Jail back on December 24.

According to the arrest warrant, 26-year old David Robert Masters, of a Lemming Road address, spit on the officer as he was being booked.

Masters also reportedly cursed and used racial slurs toward the officer.
