Floyd County 4-H’ers win big at State 4-H Congress
August 10, 2017--9:00 a.m.
Floyd County had two 4-H’ers compete at State 4-H Congress in Atlanta during the week of July 25th through July 28th. Veeka Malanchuk placed first in the International project and earned the coveted title of Master 4-H’er, and Lauren Wood placed second in the Performing Arts Dance project. Veeka will go on to attend National Congress in Atlanta, GA this fall.
State 4-H Congress takes place at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta and brings the district winners of each of the 60+ project areas together to compete at the state level. Scores are determined based on a portfolio containing the 4-H’ers project work from the previous year, a demonstration about a specific topic in their project area, and an in-person interview. The week also includes tours of various organizations in the Atlanta area, a trip to Six Flags, and a formal gala to honor the accomplishments of the 4-H’ers.
Competing at State 4-H Congress is a high honor, and Floyd County is proud to have had two 4-H’ers compete and place this year. For more information about becoming involved with 4-H, contact the Floyd County Extension Office at 706-295-6210.
